Samsung has had a big week – despite losing a major court case against Apple the Korean company managed to announce a bunch of new devices one of which is the Galaxy Player 5.8.

As the product name suggests we are dealing here with the latest Samsung music player. The device strongly resembles the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone but one notable difference is that the Galaxy Player comes with a larger 5.8-inch display that works at 960 x 540 pixel resolution – a rather low pixel resolution for such a screen especially when compared to the iPod Touch with its Retina display.

Additionally the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 comes with Android 4.0, Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB of on-board storage, a microSD expansion slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 support and a 2500 mAh battery.

Unfortunately the Galaxy Player 5.8 does not offer a rear camera although it comes with a front one. The processor running the device is also unknown.

The device should be on the market soon but right now there’s no availability date or pricing.
