Apple unveils its smartwatch line

The Spring Forward event by Apple has brought us a new product by the Cupertino-based company – the Apple Watch. The new smartwatch will be available with a sensor Retina display and will appear on April 24.

Strangely enough there’s no information on the hardware inside the Apple Watch so we will have to make do with the features it offers. First, the Apple Watch will be a smartwatch line and there will be at least two modifications with displays that measure 38 mm and 42 mm and at least three sub-lines – Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. The Apple Watch Sport comes with an anodized aluminum finish that is colored in both space gray and silver. The display of the device is protected by a special ion-treated durable glass that is similar to what is used on the iPhone too. The Watch Sport also has a rubberized plastic sport band that is available in various colors. The Apple Watch Sport costs USD 349 for the 38 mm version and USD 399 for the 42 mm version.

The Apple Watch sits in the middle with its stainless steel casing, which is available in either shiny polished silver or glossy space black. A sapphire crystal protective layer covers the display for enhanced scratch resistance and you can have the Apple Watch with a sport band, leather bands with multiple buckles and a leather loop as well as a stainless steel link or Milanese loop bracelet. Depending on the options chosen the 38 mm Apple Watch sells for USD 549 – 1049, while the 42 mm version costs USD 599 – 1099.

The Apple Watch Edition is the most luxurious version of all – it uses the same sapphire crystal as in the Apple Watch but comes in either rose or yellow 18-carat gold. The Watch Edition also offers exclusive strap options that include leather bands and sport bands with special 18-karat gold hardware in finishes that match the case of each particular model. All these options make the Apple Watch Edition a very expensive gizmo – it will sell for more than USD 10 000.

Users of the Apple Watch will be able to use it as a watch, as an e-mail and SMS center, as a device that allows them to make payments and purchases and more. The Apple Watch can also serve as a personal fitness tracker that follows your personal activity, calories burned and more. The device has a microphone, a heart rate sensor and a removable battery. Speaking of it Apple says the battery can last for up to 18 hours in mixed usage mode. If you use the Apple Watch as just a watch, the battery will serve you for two full days.
