Classic Must-See Action Films

Humanity loves action movies. They are designed to be over the top, excessive and exaggerated, but when reality starts to get a little bit dull, some adrenalin infused action hero antics are exactly what the doctor ordered.

Whether you’re eager to catch the latest action flick in the cinema or fancy a DVD at home, action movies are a great source of entertainment. There have been hundreds of great action films over the years, so here’s a quick round up of the top three films that every action fan should see. First up, the most obvious title on this list by far “ it’s Die Hard.

Whether you’ve seen Bruce Willis in action or not, you’ve most definitely heard of this film at some point in time. Willis plays New York cop John McLain in a legendary performance, complemented by despicable terrorist villain Hans Gruber in a signature role for Alan Rickman. This is an action classic and should be first in any list of action must-sees. Another timeless classic that was followed by a series of high quality sequels is the legendary Lethal Weapon, starring Mel Gibson as rebel cop Maverick Riggs and Danny Glover as his long-suffering partner, who would rather do things by the book.

Like Die Hard, Lethal Weapon charts the progress of our slightly questionable œheroes as they attempt to take down a criminal outfit. A more recent entry into the action hall of fame is 2008’s superhero movie Iron Man. One of the most successful comic book adaptations ever made, Iron Man exemplifies the shift in action movies towards superhero stories, rather than those of police officers or secret agents. Starring Robert Downey Jr as the titular hero, Iron Man features explosive action and stunning special effects that show just how far action cinema has progressed over the past decade. All these films and many more are available to buy, rent, or even stream online from rental service LOVEFiLM.
