HTC buys S3 Graphics

Smartphone Maker HTC will acquire S3 Graphics Co. from the Taiwan-based developer of x86 processor platforms VIA Technologies and WTI Investment for US$300 million.

S3 Graphics is a leading provider of innovative graphics visualization technologies for the notebook and desktop markets. The company was acquired by VIA Technologies back in 2001 and in 2005, VIA has added WTI Investment as a new investor. With this deal, VIA will receive $147 million, while the WTI will get the remaining $153 million.

The intentions of HTC for S3 Graphics are still unknown, but it’s obviously that their products and intellectual property will find a in the HTC’s smartphones and tablets.
