nevo smartwatches do not need to be charged

Smartwatches are the latest gizmos that seem to be destined to conquer the world but they have one really serious downside, just like any other digital battery-powered device – they have to be charged almost on a daily basis. The solution to this problem seems to be nearer than ever though – a startup by the name of “nevo” promises to create and release a new type of smartwatch that does not need to be charged.

Sounds cool, doesn’t it? There’s a price to pay though – unlike “classic” smartwatches the future nevo models look like regular wrist watches. They are still “smart”, however – they can follow your physical activity, notify you when you get new messages or phone calls, and remind you of upcoming events. The smartwatches are 12.5 mm thick and have a diameter that is 40 mm. The chassis is also made of stainless steel and the display is covered by sapphire glass. In addition they can withstand depths of up to 20 meters.

As with many other smartwatches the upcoming nevo models will need an iOS or Android-based device in order to properly operate. There’s also a mobile application that will do the job for you and follow your physical activity, missed calls, etc. Bluetooth 4.0 technology provides the data link.

Finally, here’s the most exciting feature – the no recharge functionality. It is achieved rather easily on the outside – the smartwatches use batteries that you can find in other watches. A 364 battery provides power to the watch and is good for up to 5 years. Then a second CR2025 battery provides energy for the smart electronics inside and is good for up to 6 months. Thus for the most part you will not have to charge your smartwatch – at least not on a daily basis.

To help finish the project nevo needs your help and you can give the company some money over the Indiegogo web site. If everything goes well, the first nevo smartwatches should be on the market in March 2015 where they will sell for USD 199.
