Seagate unveils first USB-powered desktop HDD

The US maker of hard drives Seagate Technology PLC has unveiled the Seagate Innov8 hard drive, which is the world’s first USB-powered desktop hard drive.

The main feature of the new hard drive is that its power needs can be completely met by a USB 3.1 Type-C port and a suitable cable. This means that the Innov8 does not rely on an external power source. In addition to this the Innov8 comes with 8 TB of space under the hood, which means you will have more than enough disk space for all your digital content be it movies, games, videos or demanding programs.

“Creating an extreme design that visually celebrates Seagate’s world-class engineering capabilities was a key objective of this engagement,” said Bill Webb, Huge-Design. “Innov8 builds on Seven’s success to once again convey the functional beauty of an internal hard drive, but with enough capacity to help ensure seemingly endless space to store the memories we all love. The drive represents a bold yet practical solution for today’s consumer, looking to preserve a wealth of memories in the most compelling way possible.”

The new Seagate Innov8 arrives with Seagate’s Dashboard software, which allows users to enjoy one-click on-demand or customizable, scheduled backups for their devices. In addition to this the new hard drive offer includes 200 GB of Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage where users can backup important data.

Seagate’s Innov8 hard drive will be in stores next month. The new storage device will sell for USD 349.
