Toshiba presents new 6 TB external and internal hard drives

The Digital Products Division of Toshiba has announced two new 6 TB hard drives designed for external and internal use. The new external Toshiba hard drive is called Canvio Desk and is a 3.5-inch external USB 3.0 hard drive, while the other model is a Toshiba Desk hard drive in the common 3.5-inch form factor and has support for SATA 3.0.

“Toshiba has been developing and manufacturing hard drives for more than 20 years,” said Maciek Brzeski, Vice President of Branded Storage Products, Toshiba Digital Products Division. “The time is right to upgrade our offerings not only to meet, but to exceed consumers’ expectations by expanding the offerings of our internal and external 3.5-inch hard drives.”

The new 6 TB Toshiba Canvio Desk external hard drive offers more than capacity and speed – the drive comes preloaded with backup software that makes preserving your files fast and easy. Furthermore the drive’s backup software allows users to backup data into the cloud or onto their Toshiba Desk internal hard drive.

Strangely enough Toshiba has not provided any technical details on the new 6 TB internal Toshiba Desk hard drive. We expect the drive to offer 7200 rpm of rotational speed, at least 64 MB of cache, SATA 3.0 support, TRIM, S.M.A.R.T. and more.

The two new models will be available for purchase in May 2015. Both drives will be available online or at your local Toshiba dealer for USD 369.
