Windows 8 to offer portable version of itself

Apart from the famous Metro interface and some other new goodies Windows 8 will come with a rather interesting feature, known as “Windows to Go”, Microsoft has said.

The new OS function will allow the user to create a working copy of the Windows 8 OS and the installed PC programs onto a portable flash drive. Thus in case you travel often and cannot use your own Win8 PC you can use the flash drive to re-create Windows 8 and the programs you use on a PC that runs Windows 7 or an older Windows version. This is how users will be spared from remembering the settings and user interfaces of older Windows versions. And when done the portable Windows 8 version does not leave any traces of itself on the host PC.

There are some limitations though – you need a flash drive with a capacity of at least 32 GB. Second thing – while creating the portable Windows 8 version Windows to Go requires access to the Internet to check the Win8 product key. Third – and this is done for security purposes – in case you unplug the flash drive carrying the portable Windows 8 while working you have 30 seconds to plug it back in or the thing you are doing will be terminated. Finally Microsoft says a PC running Windows 8 can take advantage of Windows to Go a limited number of times so that the function cannot be used for evil purposes.

Sounds interesting, don’t you think?
