LaCie launches new rugged Thunderbolt SSD

The premium brand of Seagate Technology, LaCie, has presented a new 1 TB model of its Rugged Thunderbolt solid-state drive line. The new model features the same weight and size found in older models and retains the same resistance against water, shock and dust as well as the well-known Thunderbolt high speed data transfer rate.

The new LaCie 1 TB SSD model comes with data transfer speeds that reach 387 MB/sec, which is three times faster than a regular mobile hard drive and features protection against drops from up to 2 meters (6.6 feet). In addition when the drive has its cap in place it becomes IP54-compliant, which means it has superior protection against dust and water, even during operation. The drive offers both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports and is suitable for Mac and PC users. The Thunderbolt cable is integrated too and when not in use it will not interfere with the drive or you. There’s more, though – the new 1 TB model has a backup software suite, compatibility with Time Machine and Windows Backup and password protection that allows users to protect certain portions of the drive or all of it.

The LaCie Rugged 1 TB model will be available later this month for USD 949.99 MSRP. The drive comes with a 3-year warranty.
