More details on the Olympus TG-4 camera

About a week ago we reported on the upcoming Olympus TG-4 digital camera that would come with a rugged chassis and, supposedly, a 20 MP optical sensor. The new camera is expected any time soon so it should not come as a surprise that new details have surfaced on the Internet.

According to the newly leaked information the full name of the camera will be Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4, emphasizing the rugged nature of the device. Speaking of this the camera will be able to survive depths of up to 15 meters (50 feet) and can withstand drops from 2.1 meters (7 feet), temps as low as -10°C (14 °F) and weights up to 100 kg (220 lbs). In addition to these features it has a built-in GPS and an e-compass so you won’t break it or get lost while you are in the woods.

Specs-wise the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4 camera includes a 16 MP 1/2.3-inch (6.17 x 4.55 mm) BSI CMOS sensor, a 25-100-mm equivalent F2-F4.9 lens and a TruePic VII image processor. The camera also has sensor-shift image stabilization and is capable of recording Full HD 1080p and 720p videos at 30 FPS along with bursts of full resolution images at 5 FPS. In addition the ISO range is 100-6400 and there are a number of other useful technologies that make working with it a pleasure. The camera supports shooting in the RAW file format, which is easier to work with when compared to JPEG, and a number of shooting modes such as Live Composite, which includes a number of underwater modes, underwater HDR, an AF Area for focusing on specific areas and more. Moreover there’s Wi-Fi that makes sharing the pics taken a breeze. The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4 is not a large camera too, which makes it easy to carry around – the device measures 111.5 x 65.9 x 31.2 mm (4.4 x 2.6 x 1.2 inches) and weighs 247 grams (8.7 oz). Finally there’s a 3-inch LCD monitor with 460K dots and a number of action-oriented accessories including a sports holder, a neoprene case and an underwater case, which allows owners to use the camera at depths of up to 45 meters (150 feet).

The new Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4 will be on the market in May 2015 in red and black colors to choose from. The camera will sell for USD 380.
