Apple to officially launch the iPhone 5 on September 12

The launch of the iPhone 5 has been officially announced by Apple with the smartphone appearing on September 12.

The US company has invited US media to an event scheduled for September 12. The event will be held at 10:00 AM Pasific/1:00 PM Eastern time. In addition the company has prepared a picture that shows a giant 12 with its shadow looking like a giant 5.

Official specs have not been disclosed but the iPhone 5 is expected to be just 7.6 mm thick. The device should also host a quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 4-inch IPS LCD display.
