Toshiba to release 5 TB hard drive

Toshiba to release 5 TB hard drive

If you want one of the famous 6 TB helium-filled hard drives but you find their prices too high for your liking then you may have a shot at a new 5 TB hard drive that has been scheduled to appear on February 19.

The drive is built by Toshiba and supports all modern hard drive technologies including SATA 3.0 and SAS 3.0. It also comes in the popular 3.5-inch form factor and offers platters that spin at 7200 rpm. There isn’t much more information on this drive. It is unlikely though that this drive will be filled with helium although Western Digital has had such models on the market now.

Along with the new 5 TB hard drive Toshiba will showcase new corporate and consumer SSDs based on 19 nm memory. Expect more information on February 19 next week.
